* Fernando Gómez Mont, former Interior Secretary who resigned from his post and then his party in protest over the 2010 PAN-PRD alliances
* Héctor Aguilar Camín, historian and Televisa personality
* Cecilia Soto, former presidential candidate for PT
* Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, historian
* Alejandro Martí, businessman and anti-kidnapping movement leader
* Ángeles Mastretta, writer
It is perhaps more notable how very few of Mexico's writers and intellectuals, organic or otherwise, have lined up with the PRI candidate.

Yes, exactly what passed my mind when I saw this PRI move. It was "115m people...and that's all you got?"
ReplyDeleteAnd, with the exception of Aguilar Camín, none of these are particularly well known intellectuals. Gomez Mont is a legal scholar, but better known as a politician. Ángeles Mastretta ranks up there with Danielle Steele as a literary figure. Rafael Tovar y de Teresa... kinda obscure (ok, he was ambassador to Italy, but c'mon) and Alejandro Martí? OK, a tee-shirt manufacturer can be intellectual, but like Javier Sicilia (who really is one of the intelligencia), just the father of a crime victim.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant observations:)
